Flight attendants instruct passengers during pre-flight instructions to “First put on your own oxygen mask before attempting to help anyone else”. It’s a great life-lesson. One, I must admit, I do not live by the majority of the time. Taking care of our own bodies, mind and spirit, makes us better equipped to care for others.
Of course, taking care of ourselves is easy to overlook, but the price we pay can be great. From frazzled nerves to serious health conditions, we put ourselves at risk, in turn compromising the care we give to others.
I have to admit, I’m REALLY busy today and for the rest of the week, but I am going to make it a point to give myself some “QMT” (Quality Me Time). Even if it is just twenty minutes on the treadmill.
Today, look at what time you can give yourself. Do you have an hour? Half an hour? Ten minutes? Take a walk. Take a breath. Whatever it is, you’re worth it.
